My First Post

Hello! This is my first time blogging, so forgive me for the lack of formatting.

I thought I’d make this post as a way to introduce myself.

Who Am I?

My name’s Paul, and I’m currently in my senior year of university, studying Computer Science! I’m 24 years old, and it took me a minute to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. But somehow, I ended up in a place where I’m confident I’ll be doing this for a long time.

A Bit More About Me

I’ve never been involved in clubs or sports as a kid. It wasn’t until I was 21 years old that I stumbled upon a sport called Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Ever since then, I’ve been hooked and don’t see myself quitting (at least until my body gives out).

Before BJJ, I was just going through the motions — going to school because it was “the right thing to do,” doing the bare minimum to pass my classes, and spending 8 hours a day grinding League of Legends solo queue (only to end up at the same LP I started at).

But now, with the discipline I’ve gained from BJJ, I apply it to my studies. Ever since then, I’ve been more open to trying new things!

Learning Japanese

Another thing I’ve gotten into is learning Japanese. My journey started last year after a trip to Japan (which I was hesitant to go on at first), but ever since then, you could say I’ve become obsessed with it. Now, I study Japanese for at least one hour a day. After a year and a couple of months, I’m shocked to find that I can actually understand what people are saying when I watch Japanese shows or dramas!

Not only has studying Japanese improved my language abilities, but it also got me involved at my university. I joined the weekly Japanese language table, where I met some great friends. I’ve even volunteered to give tours to Japanese high school students around our campus and volunteered at the annual Japanese Festival in Kissimmee, FL.

Bachata & Dancing

Most recently, I’ve gotten into dancing, specifically bachata! My brother has been doing it for a year and finally convinced me to join him. I’ve always loved dancing, but dancing with other people is a whole different ballgame. I have two left feet and am terribly introverted, so I really had to step out of my comfort zone for this one. But after months of exposing myself to it, I can confidently say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I look forward to hitting the dance floor every week!

Tech & Study Balance

So, with all these hobbies, you’re probably wondering… when do I actually study? Well, compared to my previous League of Legends addiction, I now really value my free time. After a long day of being outside and getting active, I actually look forward to solving Leetcode problems or working on silly little coding projects.

And I thought, what better place to share them than a blog? So here goes—this is my little reflection area!

Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
